The fire started around 8 a.m., on lower Pepper Street, said Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Catalano.
When firefighters arrived on the scene they found heavy fire and received reports of a possible person trapped inside, the chief said.
Firefighters, including Monroe, Stepney, Stevenson volunteer fire department, were quickly able to determine that no one was inside, but two dogs did perish in the blaze, he said.
The fire was quickly contained, but the home is uninhabitable, Catalano.
In addition, one firefighter suffered minor injuries during a fall on the ice.
The Fire Marshal is continuing to investigate the exact cause.
